Micro Enterprise Development Through the Church
If you try to help the poor, you will encounter some heartbreaking stories. Betty is an example. She runs a grocery kiosk in a suburban neighborhood, and she was reading her Bible when our team came to visit. Betty’s husband died and left her penniless. She had to send her three kids to live with her mom because she couldn’t afford to support them. Can you imagine her grief when one of her children died soon afterward? The loan she got from the TentMaker Project enabled her to keep up this tiny business, but it is not profitable - she hasn’t been able to pay back the loan or put any money into savings. How do you respond to that kind of poverty?
